Your VA decision

ClaimScopeLaw, a law firm in Clear Lake, Iowa

If VA got your decision wrong, a VA-accredited attorney can take it from here.

After VA decides your claim, the attorney reviews the decision and your records, writes your strategy, files the review as your representative and sees it through to VA's next decision. You pay one fixed fee, never a percentage of your back pay.

The 30-minute call is free for any Veteran, whether or not you hire the attorney. You don't have to pay for help at all: Veterans Service Organizations and county veteran service officers help with VA claims at no cost.

Two fixed fees, chosen by your situation

Both are for an issue VA has already decided. Federal law allows attorney fees only after VA's initial decision, so the firm doesn't charge for first-time claims.

Representation for harder cases, with every filing listed in your written agreement: clear and unmistakable error, earlier effective dates, TDIU, Board appeals, or more than one decision. from

set before you sign
  • Pay in full or in three payments, with no interest or fees.
  • If the attorney finds no reasonable basis for any review route before writing your strategy, you get every dollar back. This depends on the attorney's review, not on VA's decision.
  • Fees are paid through LawPay into ClaimScopeLaw's client trust account and are earned in stages as the work is done.
  • The fee is owed whatever VA decides, except as the refund terms in your signed agreement provide. No one can promise a result.

How it works

  1. Free strategy call. Email the firm to ask for a call. Don't send details about your case yet: the attorney first checks for conflicts.
  2. Written terms. If the attorney can take your matter, you get a written engagement agreement and VA Form 21-22a, which appoints the attorney for the issues you choose. Nothing starts until you sign.
  3. Payment. You pay the first payment through LawPay. The attorney files the fee agreement with VA's Office of General Counsel within 30 days, as VA requires.
  4. The work. The attorney reviews your file, writes your strategy, files as your representative and keeps you updated through VA's decision.

About the attorney

Gabe served in the infantry in Afghanistan and learned the VA claims process the hard way, on his own claim. He later served as an Army JAG and has spent years helping fellow Veterans with their VA claims. He is admitted to practice law in Iowa and has been accredited by VA's Office of General Counsel since September 2026. You can confirm accreditation in VA's accreditation search.

Email the firm and the attorney will reply to set a time. Asking for a call doesn't make you a client, and it doesn't pause any VA deadline.
